THE BARD COMES TO BRADLEY
Shakespeare at the Beach
Presents
Romeo and Juliet

Saturday August 4th and Saturday August 11th at 7PM
Outdoors at the Fifth Avenue gazebo on the boardwalk

Summer 2011 Shakespeare at the Beach presented scenes from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “The Tempest,” and the Bard made his debut at the gazebo in Bradley Beach. It was a magical evening on the boardwalk enjoyed by visitors, residents and particularly children who seemed quietly charmed and happy. People strolling by became mesmerized and watched surprised that they were not at the Old Globe in London but viewing the Bard at Bradley. This year Julia Sandra Rand will co- direct “Romeo and Juliet” and play the role of Juliet’s Nurse. We welcome back three actors from our 2011 debut troupe: Juliet. Julianna Stanford Nagy; Romeo, Ruben Nagy and Friar Lawrence, Jason Piskiel.

Darrell Painter will join us playing the role of Lady Capulet. She and her husband Brookman summer in Bradley and winter in Tampa. The roles of Paris, Balthasar and Friar John will be announced in June. Jacklyn Schneider, our music director, will choose selections from the ballet “Romeo and Juliet” by Sergei Prokofiev and co-direct this production as well.

As you will note this year we have two performances scheduled. As Shakespeare at The Beach grows, our goal is to offer more free performances along with more than one play in repertory. We need grants and donations to accomplish this goal as the minimal production costs and sound equipment necessary for outdoors is high even without sets and costumes. We look forward to your continued support.

Her students appear on Broadway, in regional theatres, TV and the concert stage. Mezzo-Soprano Kelsey Robertson, from Point Pleasant, graduated this month from Oberlin College Conservatory. This fall Kelsey will begin graduate studies in voice at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.
